Refusing to take the route of his peers Topher James shunned the corporate world after a pivotal moment with his boss and began a journey of music, for a living, as a way of life. Realizing a common denominator of all the music he loved was melody, strong emotional content, and soul, he began writing in this style and studying the greats. Chris “Topher James” Shaw studied the likes of classic artists such as Sam Cooke and Donny Hathaway as well as modern R&B and Gospel artists like PJ Morton and Emily King putting together a sound of his own. Topher James and Biscuit Brigade’s latest single “No Need To Hide” deals with isolation, the struggle with being your authentic self, and the political climate. It was produced over Zoom in collaboration with Glenn Davis and is available on streaming sites everywhere. His newest set of singles, set to be released in late 2021 early 2022, were recorded under direction of drummer and producer Jeff Martin (Trevor Hall) and explore smooth R&B sounds mixed with blues utilizing acoustic guitar, synths, and of course tons of vocal harmony.
